Malnutrition due to climate change is expected to have important impacts on health. This is primarily based on estimates of the impact of drought and other climate calamities on food production among subsistence farmers in rural areas of low income countries. However, as has been shown by McMichael and others (2007), an imbalance between global food production and consumption as well as shortages partly due to climate change (e.g. lower production in Australia) has created new health risks and rapidly increasing food prices around the world.
